Deaf Awareness Training

Aare you D/deaf Aware?  Our "Bite Sized" taster sessions offer a brief introduction to D/deaf awareness and British Sign Language (BSL). Our workshops are a great way to find out about issues that affect D/deaf friends, family members, employees, work colleagues and customers, improve your communication skills and comply with current legislation, i.e. the Equality Act 2010.

Our team of friendly and experienced trainers will travel to your workplace, bringing with them any necessary training equipment.  The training is delivered in a relaxed and informal manner by native BSL users.

Our workshops will demonstrate how the workplace and the attitudes of the workforce can be adapted to ensure full accessibility for D/deaf customers and employees. This ensures best practise and will help employers to meet their responsibilities under the law.  Participants can expect to have fun learning some basic BSL as well as gaining an elementary understanding of D/deaf issues. Each session will include team tasks which will improve the confidence of participants when interacting with D/deaf people.

The sessions offer an invaluable experience. Our user-friendly approach will encourage participants to widen their social understanding and embrace a different culture.  10 million people in the UK are deaf, which is one in six of the population.  So employees will frequently come into contact with deaf people.  By training your staff to become deaf ware you are meeting your responsibilities under the 2010 Equality Act and enabling them to communicate confidently and effectively with deaf customers and deaf colleagues.

Sessions can be tailored to meet the specific needs of an organisation. We can also provide deaf awareness training for individuals and groups including children's groups such as the Guides or Scouts.

We offer sessions from 1 hour "Bite Sized" up to 3 hours for more intensive training.       Typical cost "Bite Sized" (Groups of 1-10) only £180.
